You & Me, me & you
'This is one of four approaches I devised using photographs as a way of facilitating emotional learning in Euroean prisons. The approach where inmates write photobooks for their children by choosing images to help them express what they want to say to them, proved very popular. It is described in Loewenthal (2015), The therapeutic use of photographs in the United Kingdom criminal justice system'. European Journal of Psychotherapy and Counselling, 17 (1): 39-56, where another account is given of the actual work with the father, who through it came to see that the reason he was trying to commit suicide was that as a mercenary he had killed boys his son's age. An overall evaluation of the use of photobooks in European prisons is given in Loewenthal et al (forthcoming), Evaluating the Therapeutic Use of Photocards in European Prisons, Counselling Psychology Quarterly [accepted March 2016].
